A Day for Those who Died Without Dignity

Hello. My name is Nigel and I have been a homeless rights activist for several years. I was homeless for six years until recently, and while I was homeless four close friends of mine had passed away who were either in the shelters or were recently in the shelters. I have been trying for several years to organize an event called Longest Night of the Year to pay tribute to homeless persons who have passed away. My friends and I were really close to having a sanctioned event this year, but at the last minute we had found out that there was a bureaucratic error at our largest organizing group that made a sanctioned event not possible. However, it is our desire to still see this happen someday. In the meantime, our plan is to still attend James Short Park (AKA Circle Park) on December 21st to hold a vigil and possibly share our stories about people we know who passed away on the streets of Calgary.

This site will be for updating people interested about that night and our efforts to hold an event for December 21st 2015. This site will also have a page that will be updated with news articles regarding homeless persons who have died in Calgary, for any reason.

Feel free to share your stories with us here, and pay respects to those you know and love.
